Looking for weed while visiting Washington DC?

This is a grey line/murky line of the law that is kind of “allowed” in the district. Transporting cannabis is legal and Gifting it is legal.

Where to find weed in DC; for those that do not know how to find weed in dc or if it is illegal to buy weed in Washington DC. Initiative 71 clearly informs us that “while the District’s marijuana statute allows for possession of small amounts of marijuana, it is not legal to sell it. As a result, MPD has been responsive to complaints of such illegal activity at local businesses throughout the city”.

Find weed in DC using Delivery and Pickup Services.

My folks picked me up from the airport and the first thing I said was “where can you find weed in DC?” So we drove into the city. I noticed a few “Smoke Shops” on the ride. I didn’t even know DC had weed stores. My friends informed me DC doesn’t and explained to me what Initiative 71 is. As I understood it, it simply means you can transport a couple ounces in your car, possess it, and gift it to friends.

Washington DC allows for the delivery of cannabis to individuals under two ounces. However, as a consumer there should be a basic etiquette. A delivery service that is professional, like Select Co-op will have all of their information, processes, and selections on the website. A lot of time and questions can be saved by simply reading the information on sites before calling to place an order.

Visit Select Co-Op Recreational Dispensary

A top-notch weed delivery service will answer questions, explain strains, and the process of receiving goods if there are questions once checking out the online process. The keyword is service in delivery service. I am thankful to deal with Select Co-op.

Buying weed in DC at Pop-up Events.

Lately I’ve been getting a few invitations to pop ups in the area. The last time I linked with some of my friends, at least one person got the bright idea to head over to some pop-up event they found on social media. I kept up a cool facade, but in my head I was like hell no, because who wants to travel to some random spot to find weed in dc from someone I don’t know? I know some people who look to this as their primary way of getting weed, but I’m not one of those people.

When DC first loosened the restrictions on recreational weed and legal “donations” for cannabis. All of a sudden you had these “pop up shops” at a random house in DC, or even more hotter, at a hotel somewhere!

Where are the pop up events in DC located?

Pop-ups can take place anywhere from a family home, an old store, or an industrial park. Who knows. We visited pop-ups in the back of a bakery, someone’s basement, and what appeared to be a loading dock. The simple set-up usually includes some space where “vendors” can display their goods on a card table of some sorts. The “vendors” pay a small fee for the table. The most generous word we could use to describe the quality of marijuana we found at the pop-up is transient. The vibe tends to come off more flea market than fine dining.

With COVID around I am thankful my guys at Select Co-Op do pickups outside. Easy, no hassle, no drama, and no bullshit. Lingering to shop at a pop-up is like hanging out at a bar or restaurant. I play it safe these days and avoid crowds of people and hanging with folks I do not know.

Should I buy weed from DC storefronts?

Find Law, or any basic law website will inform that concerning weed in Washington DC. There are no LEGAL storefronts. While it is legal to gift marijuana to someone, the sale of other items to make that gift can run afoul of the law quickly. There have been plenty of raids at DC storefronts.

Simply put, such storefronts are simply being given enough rope to hang themselves. The District is clear on how cannabis may be shared with friends as a gift.

So can I find weed in DC from storefronts you see around the city? Simply put they are a sting, a bust, a crackdown waiting to happen whenever the police get around to them. The police and the neighbors know that cannabis is being sold as well as other THC products. Storefronts are literally a billboard advertising to the police, “lock me up whenever you want”.

Can you smoke weed walking down the street in Washington DC?

The technical answer is no. However, with vape pens and one-hitters it is quite easy to do so discreetly. You may see someone walking down the street with a joint or blunt smoking. Well it is recreational legal and police are not harassing people for cannabis.

There is something called common sense. If there is a day-care group of toddlers walking down the street and you are Puff the Magic Dragon walking along them an officer may deal with your blatant disregard. Nor would I be at an outside table eating at a restaurant and start lighting up curbside. Use situational awareness if you are going to publicly consume.

Cannabis is NOT legal on any federally owned lands. Your fantasy of smoking on the White House Lawns or the steps of the Capitol building need to stay in your mind. It is illegal to smoke on federally owned land. This also extends to areas you may not consider.
All of the outside monuments on the mall are on federally owned land.  A desire to engage in 420 activities in or on any of these areas is definitely NOT the move!
