What Is Delta-8?

People are talking about delta-8, especially in states where marijuana hasn’t been fully legalized. Some Ask what is delta-8? Delta-8 is a cannabis compound or cannabinoid that has become popular because of its similarity to delta-9 THC, the main compound in cannabis that gets you high. THC is the active component in marijuana that causes euphoria, happiness, sedation, symptom relief, and much more. The similarities between delta8 and delta-9 lie in their chemical structures and their names.

The scientific name for THC is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or delta-9 THC, or just delta-9. Delta-8 is short for delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol, or delta-8 THC. Delta-8 can deliver similar effects as delta-9 THC however, these are less potent. Also, because delta-8 can be extracted from either hemp or cannabis, it has been looked at as a way to skirt legality issues in states where marijuana isn’t fully legalized. A 2018 farm bill allows hemp to be grown and used for extractions all over the United States.

Nearly all delta-8 THC on the market today is produced from hemp-derived CBD, which theoretically makes its distribution federally legal.

People in states where marijuana is illegal who want to use cannabis products are now exploring using delta-8 because it may be legal in their state, despite its reduced potency. This means that many hemp-based extractors have increased their production of delta-8 to meet this new interest, and they are making their products available to customers across the United States.

Both delta-8 and delta-9 attach to the body’s endocannabinoid system to produce the effects of being high. However, because the bonds in the chemical structure of delta-8 are different, researchers believe that it produces less of a high. That said, more research needs to be done to determine whether or not this is accurate.

Delta-8 products may be an option for consumers who are looking to experience a lighter high than they would with regular cannabis that contains THC. Consumers of delta-8 products report that they experience many of the same effects as THC consumers, such as mild euphoria, happiness, uplifting feelings, and relief from some symptoms such as pain. Delta-8 may also help with insomnia. Side effects of consuming delta-8 products are thought to be similar to those of THC, including dry mouth, red eyes, munchies, paranoia, and anxiety.

It is important to keep in mind that the experience when consuming delta-8 products is more akin to the experience of consuming cannabis-based products than CBD-based products. If you’re looking for relief from certain symptoms without experiencing intoxication, you may want to try a CBD product. Also, there has been limited research and testing when it comes to delta-8 products.

Delta-8 is produced by extracting CBD from hemp, which is refined into an isolate, and then that isolate is synthesized into delta-8. This means that delta-8 production requires more processing, and is more expensive to make than CBD. Currently, this increased production cost is offset by its high demand. Due to delta-8’s newness on the market, it may be difficult to find products that deliver a high standard of quality control. Consumers would do well to stay away from products that aren’t tested, or have questionable test results, as they won’t be certain that these products even contain delta-8. Also, they could potentially contain harmful substances.
