How To Avoid Nausea While Shrooming — 🍄 Psychedelic Tips

If you’ve ever taken magic mushrooms before, you’ve likely come across a time where you experience some sort of nausea.

Nausea can be an extremely uncomfortable feeling normally, but it’s the last thing you want when you’re on a trip to outer space.

That’s why in this article we’re going to go over how to avoid nausea during a magic mushroom trip.

Why Do Magic mushrooms Cause Nausea?

One of the main reasons why mushrooms can cause nausea is because they contain chitin.

Chitin is a type of fiber that is not easily broken down by the human digestive system.

The symptoms may occur soon after eating a mushroom or can be delayed for 6-24 hours. Certain types of mushrooms can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain.

The human digestive system doesn’t have the enzymes necessary to break down chitin, so when we eat mushrooms (or other chitin-containing foods like shrimp and crab), our bodies can’t absorb all the nutrients.

This can lead to gastrointestinal distress, including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Additionally, chitin can also absorb water, which can further contribute to feelings of discomfort and bloating.

Some people may also be sensitive to chitin or other compounds in mushrooms, which can trigger an immune response and lead to nausea.

should you take shrooms on an empty stomach?

It’s best practice to take magic mushrooms on an empty stomach to avoid nausea and vomiting.

We recommend fasting before any psychedelic journey, or limiting your food intake to light meals only 24 hours before your trip.

Doing so will help you avoid any unwanted food reactions and digestive issues during your psychedelic journey.

Magic mushrooms not only feel better on an empty stomach, but they may even work better.

However, don’t be afraid to have light snacks handy throughout your trip as the typical trip can last anywhere from 4 to 8 hours.

Best Ways To Avoid Nausea While On Shrooms

In order to avoid nausea after ingesting magic mushrooms, there are several techniques you can use.

Here are our top recommendations:

Shroom Tea

Many people choose to ingest magic mushrooms by mixing them into a tea.

Shroom tea makes it easy to consume and you can use your favorite tea recipe!

We recommend using ginger tea as it has been shown to help with digestion.

Lemon Tek

Lemon tekking is one of the most popular ways to avoid nausea while shrooming.

What you want to do is grind up dried mushrooms, then let them soak in a shot of lemon juice for 20 minutes.

Doing so will allow the lemon juice to break down chitin, which can be hard for humans to digest.

Keep in mind that a lemon tek often equates to a shorter, more intense magic mushroom trip.

Eat Clean

Eating clean leading up to a psychedelic journey will help your digestive system function at a high level.

Avoid greasy, high-fat foods so that your digestive system is cleaned out.

In the past, I’ve really enjoyed doing a 24 hour juice cleanse leading up to my trip.

Use Capsules

My preferred way of taking magic mushrooms is in capsules.

It makes shrooms easy-to-consume, doesn’t taste like anything, and makes dosing extremely easy.

I’ve also noticed a difference in regards to avoiding nausea when I take shrooms in capsules.

Breath Work

If you do experience any sort of nausea, breath work can really help you relax and work through it.

I recommend following a Wim Hof session to help you recenter your mind and body.

Since everyone’s body is a little bit different, the best thing you can do for yourself if you want to avoid nausea while shrooming is to keep a journal.

Document your food intake before a trip and consumption methods of the magic mushrooms.

Doing so will help you figure out what works best for you.

Happy tripping!
