This is not surprising at all. A few weeks ago we wrote about this Delta-8 THC. Go back and look at our post saying “No, thank you” to this synthetic Delta-8 stuff. Our basis was that the only research being done at the time was by one university. The director of the research program simply stated we have no data about effects; simply hypothesizing about what they were investigating.
The FDA and CDC regulate legal cannabis products containing traditional, good old Delta-9 THC which can not be more than .3 percent THC as the Marijuana Moment reports. However, Delta-8 products are unregulated and their effect on the body is again undetermined. Interestingly, we previously informed you more than a few businesses selling these products are former and/or current law enforcement officers.
This week the FDA and CDC issued warnings to consumers about the potential risks of Delta 8-THC. Check our previous article where business owners selling these products were accusing the attempt to regulate this product as a means to appeal to the growing corporate and federal profit interest in legalizing cannabis (Delta-9) THC. Even if that is true, time has revealed that Delta-8 THC has had “significant health effects from people using it” , the Marijuana Moment reports.
The FDA released a statement as reported by the Marijuana Moment indicating “It is important for consumers to be aware that Delta-8 THC products have not been evaluated or approved by the FDA for safe use in any context. They may be marketed in ways that put the public health at risk and should especially be kept out of reach of children and pets.” It is reported many Delta-8 products are being advertised as “hemp” or “CBD hemp”. Whether intentional or not, this misinformation in marketing is misleading to what the product actually is. The FDA received reports of “people who have experienced symptoms such as “vomiting, hallucinations, trouble standing, and loss of consciousness.”
Paul Armentano, deputy director of NORML, told Marijuana Moment that the rise of Delta-8 THC is a result of marijuana policy conflicts that have left gaps in access to traditional cannabis products. The lack of the federal government’s ability to keep up with the technology of cannabis relating to the laws and regulation of it is glaring. The Marijuana Moment reports the FDA has “further concerns that the chemical process of synthesizing delta-8 THC from CBD could lead to contaminated products”.
We were suspicious from the start my friends. Partly because we are tried and true flower users as well. Seriously though my 4:20 celebrators, be leary of this new “technology”. You can rest assured you can still get quality flowers and concentrates from a DC delivery company like Select Co-op.
