Bipartisan Group Pushes Congress for Psychedelic Research

We write to support language in the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and RelatedAgencies appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2024 to strongly urge the National Institutes of Health(NIH) to include active-duty servicemembers in NIH-funded research on psychedelics.

As the largest public funder of biomedical research in the world, this directive for the NIH would expandgovernment wide efforts to understand the potential risks and benefits of psychedelic-assisted therapy tothis critical population.

 

The opening lines in a letter from members of Congress, pushing for the US government to more aggressively fund research into psychedelic therapy.

This move is being led by a bipartisan group of legislators, including conservative Republicans from red states like Texas. The growing coalition from both left and right shows how psychedelics and their benefits to mental health are a crossover issue both parties can support.
