It is clear that the COVID-19 pandemic has severely if not permanently impacted may business industries. While that is unfortunate for some’s financial security this is also an opportunity for people to learn skills and build capacities to eliminate degrees of dependence on others. Part of my 4:20 ritual the last few weeks is to increase my capacities and spend time learning new skills and refining skills I have.
I purchased my oldest daughter an HP Pro. 450 https://store.hp.com/us/en/mlp/laptops/pro-352502–1. Much of her work is no incorporating movie production into her assignments. Her basic model Asus computer was a slow as dirt so it was time to upgrade so she can learn to use more technology. I am looking at the Mac-book Pro, and I am getting that very soon.

There are videos and sound editing programs that I need for projects. I am developing and there is no better time to get to work.
Like Appetite for Change reminds us, we all have the power to “Grow Food” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqgU3co4vcI. The consistent theme in the news is how the supply chain in America is disrupted. Grocers and stores have many empty shelves. Even if one does not have seeds it is simple to regrow organic vegetables like onions, celery, potatoes, and ginger. Check out this video on how to regrow almost anything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jze8utzpLhg My daughters’ room gets the most light so they are regrowing on a tiered shelf I constructed in their bay window.
I am lover not a fighter! …but I will fight in an instant for those I love. The ability to defend oneself with hands, a weapon, or firearm is a skill set that can be increased over one’s entire life. I am not advocating guns or violence. I am advocating knowing how to protect yourself from an attacker. I appreciate the active self defender YouTube channel as an excellent resource to study. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7355EbY-Nc. I ordered a Brazilian Jujitsu dummy for my and my daughter’s to roll with https://www.amazon.com/grappling-dummies/s?k=grappling+dummies. We will stuff it with old cut up clothes and foam. YouTube has a library of videos for people to begin to pick up the basics of BJJ. My daughters and I are also target shooting in the house. NO we are not shooting ammunition. The Mantis dry-shooting system tracks your dry-shooting to detect the ability to keep sights on target while squeezing the trigger. Since there is no loud noise my daughter’s love it as its a game to try get 100% accuracy. https://mantisx.com
It hit my daughters a few weeks ago…it hit them hard. The moment they realized there is not going to be a big change of season shopping trip to the mall they were a little traumatized. However, I have told them instead of paying 10/20/30 dollars for cheap t-shirts and sweaters design t-shirts and we will get a heat transfer machine to make your own t-shirts. Both of them have had sewing classes so I am challenging them to make clothes since they have the time. Sewing is a skill, but I am not learning it. I’ll press those t-shirts though!
Now is the time to accept the challenge to pick up DIY projects as well. I made the shelves for my daughters to regrow the sprouts in their bay window with a few 2 x 4’s and drill. I ordered the mechanics manual for my car. I figure basic maintenance is something I will now take over. We are also eliminating buying veggie burgers. A huge back of Textured vegetable protein or pea protein isolate and the ingredients to make it compare to spending 1$ vs $5 so it is no brainier to do it ourselves. I am also experimenting with making infused cannabis oil this week. I will let y’all know how it goes.
This is a time where we can look to conserve our resources by expanding our ability to do and create for ourselves. Enjoy this process of change and growth. May your 4:20 be productive and fulfilling!
